Optimum Location Management with Mirror HLRs
Authors
Abstract
In this paper, we propose a Mirror-HLR (MHLR) scheme for mobile telecommunication networks to reduce signalling costs to far distant locations of a mobile subscriber. An open Jackson network with customer classes is used as a mobility model to describe analytically the signalling traffic induced by user mobility. >From the stationary distribution of the number of customers per Visitor Location Register (VLR), and the costs of database accesses, we obtain the overall costs of location management of the network. Optimum MHLR location strategies with minimal costs are derived by means of integer linear programming and simulated annealing.
