The Geometry of the High-Power MIMO BC Rate Region Under Linear Filtering

Abstract:

In this thesis, we consider a two user MIMO broadcast channel with linear ltering. Both users have several antennas available and there are more antennas at the base station than the sum of the receiving antennas. The optimization that we mainly focus on is the maximization of the sum rate subject to a constraint over the partition of the rate between the two users. Solving this optimization problem is equivalent to the derivation of the maximum rate region.

The main assumption is that we operate in the high power regime, i.e, that a large amount of power is available at the base station. Even after applying high power approximations, this optimization problem is very intricate, particularly because the optimal number of data streams transmitted is unknown. Therefore, we will study each stream con guration separately, and compare them, so that we can obtain the maximum rate region without any assumption on the number of transmitted streams. Moreover, we will quantify and discuss the error induced by the high power approximation for nite power available.
