OFDM and Wavelet Packet Multicarrier Modulation

Abstract:

OFDM is a multicarrier modulation technique for high data rate transmission over wireless radio channels. It has been adopted in wireless systems such as wireless local-area networks (WLAN), digital video broadcasting (DVB) and digital audio broadcasting (DAB). It is selected due to a high spectral efficiency and immunity to multipath fading. However, OFDM exhibits high peak to average power ratio and sensitivity to the orthogonality between subcarriers. In this talk, a PMEPR reduction algorithm, a fractional frequency offset estimator and a channel estimator for OFDM are presented.

Wavelet packet multicarrier modulation can create subcarriers of different bandwidth and symbol length. It can be exploited to create a multirate system. In this talk, the wavelet packet multicarrier modulation architecture, its advantage and further research topics are also presented.
