Joint channel estimation and data detection in MIMO-OFDM using belief propagation

Abstract:

MIMO-OFDM offers a promising technique for broadband wireless communications. Accurate channel estimation can be used to improve the performance by allowing coherent demodulation and resource allocation. OFDM transmissions often suffer from time and frequency selective fading effects of the channel. Joint iterative receivers are dedicated to solve these problems. Due to the overwhelming complexity of the optimal receiver, low complexity receivers become attractive. The low complexity scheme proposed is based on belief propagation, which is an iterative message passing algorithm for performing statistical inference on graphical models by propagating locally computed "beliefs".
