Abstract

In this paper, we deal with a precise stochastic model of Channel Segregation (CS), an allocation strategy for cellular radio networks. On-line updating of channel priority lists is an essential building block of this algorithm. On the basis of our model we investigate the convergence behaviour of the priority lists. Blocking probability and the number of unsuccessful channel accesses are used to measure the performance of CS. Since the limits of the priority schemes are not unique, different initial conditions can lead to different performance of CS. This severe drawback is pointed out in two numerical examples, where it is shown that CS can be even worse than the simple 'First Available' strategy.
