Performance evaluation of space division multiplexing by a Markovian mobility model
Authors
Abstract
Space division multiple access (SDMA) is a promising method to cope with the increasing traffic demand in cellular radio networks. Smart and switched beam antennas form the technological platform to realize spatial separation of mobiles on the same frequency. The present paper offers a general model and corresponding methods to analyze the performance of SDMA for cellular networks. It turns out that particularly for high load situations a significant gain over omnidirectional transmission can be expected. However, there are also extreme cases where SDMA deteriorates the system performance.
