Analytical Bounds on the Complementary Error FunctionAbstract:
This presentation shows a method to approximate the complementary error function by using a lower and an upper bound function. Using these functions, the integral over the complementary error function multiplied with a Gaussian function can also be estimated. After a brief discussion of formerly existing approximations and their limitations, the new approach is proposed as an improvement of these current bounds. Overall, these approximations allow for a prediction of the numerical value of the complementary error function within a maximum error bound of about 0.045.
